an introduction to myself (..and a half breakup letter to my architecture degree)

I’m an Australian multi-disciplinary designer focusing on Architecture, UI and UX design. Based in Sydney, Australia.

Over the past 3 years I have been designing buildings and infrastructures made to stand the test of time which was fulled by my love to create spacial experiences for people. This is how I discovered the UX realm of designing for people and experience design.

A Third Culture Individual who grew up in Asia with its diverse culture and experiences, this outlook helped shape the designer, student and person I am today.

the architectural design process

Iterations are imperative for architects, rolls of crossed out parchment paper makes for one solid design and or idea. Iterations are apart of every design phase. This is how I was trained to think, and was expected to come to studio with 6 different iterations of the same idea.

I personally like to think a design is never finished.. and thats what makes ux design brilliant, the ability to constantly change, improve and iterate in real time. buildings can be edited with years of lead time. designing and executing through figma and coding... sounds more feasible to me

qualitative interviews and user empathy

Qualitative interviews are the lemon laws of User Experience Design and play a pivotal role, they allow us to always have the user in mind at all stages of R+D.

As a interviewer, I not only seek to understand, but also prioritise putting interviewees at ease, creating an approachable environment where they can freely share their insights and observe minute details (my friends actually despise how finicky I am sometimes :), in this context its a win for me).

During interviews, active listening is imperative, enabling to uncover nuanced user perspectives and refine design solutions that authentically address their needs and goals AT the end of the day, the customer is always right!

design, design, design!

As an architect, we build physical spaces. As a UX/UI designer, we build digital spaces. both with a common denominator of create spacial experiences for users. Goes as follows: understand your target user and listen to them which inevitably creates a vision around their needs.

One textbook i recived during my undergrad “Design. Think. Make. Break. Repeat”. is probably one of the only textbooks i have read front to back cover
